A Note from Your Innkeeper
Welcome to the Jeremiah Mason House,
My journey to becoming your host began long before I officially opened these doors. In the 1970s, this house belonged to my relatives, Richard and Eleanor Watson. As a four-year-old, I spent my summers here as an explorer, running through our massive 1.2-acre backyard and chasing tiny toads and gardener snakes through the grass. To me, this property has always represented the best of Maine—freedom, nature, and a true sense of belonging.
But the story of this home goes back much further. While the land was first settled by a man named George in the late 1700s—who, along with his wife, still rests in a quiet corner of our property—it was Jeremiah Mason who built this grand residence in 1859. Jeremiah was a pillar of the Limerick community: a businessman, a legislator, and a bank founder. I like to think that his spirit of excellence and drive still lives within these brick walls.
I learned the true “trade” of hospitality from my parents at their inn in Ocean Park. My mother was a legendary stickler for cleanliness; she was a taskmaster who taught me how to really clean. She showed me that excellence is found in the smallest details—from the perfect alignment of a lampshade to the crisp tuck of a bedspread. After years of managing housekeeping for my family, it became my mission to bring those same high standards to my own Bed and Breakfast.
Today, those generations of history meet here in Limerick. When you stay with us, you can expect a home that is spotlessly maintained and deeply welcoming. That care extends to my kitchen as well. I am a dedicated home cook who believes in the power of a hearty, “stick-to-your-ribs” breakfast. While I serve a plated Innkeeper’s Choice meal, your comfort is my priority. Whether you are Vegan, Vegetarian, Dairy-Free, or Gluten-Free, I take great pride in tailoring a delicious, home-cooked meal to your specific needs. Just let me know your requirements during the reservation process so I can have everything ready for you!
Whether you are here to relax or to explore, our location is the perfect “middle of everywhere.” We are centrally located between the breathtaking Maine coast and the rugged mountains, making us the ideal base for your next adventure. After a day of exploring, you can return to the peace of the backyard where my own story began.
I look forward to welcoming you soon.
Warmly,
Valerie Kessler Innkeeper, Jeremiah Mason House Bed and Breakfast
